Leo in a black technical jacket holds a glowing memory sphere inside the violet auction room
Scene 01

A memory with two owners

You are ethics counsel at the first commercial auction of reconstructed memories. Lot Zero contains a private kiss between two adults, Leo and a former partner whose identity is withheld. A research calibration captured the trace without permission to record this encounter or sell it. As the countdown approaches its final minute, the catalogue cites a supposed future consent form. Neither participant has authorised a viewing tonight.

Scene 02

Forty-seven seconds, suspended

You invoke the auction's published consent-dispute procedure. The chair freezes Lot Zero with forty-seven seconds remaining, locks bidding and disconnects the demonstration output. Mira preserves the transaction log rather than deleting evidence. A transfer receipt traces the source capsule to a neural-research demonstration; the participants authorised calibration, not the capture or commercial reconstruction of this private encounter.

The condition outside the catalogue frame: Mira in a silver asymmetric top questions the memory auction at the glowing tribunal
Scene 03

The condition outside the catalogue frame

Mira opens the full packet received by the experimental time relay. Its laboratory receipt identifies a possible future branch, seventeen, ten years ahead; it does not establish that this future must occur. The catalogue cropped Leo's apparent signature away from its condition: only if both participants still want the use. The partner's signature is absent. Authenticating a received packet would not establish voluntary consent within it.
