Tonight was Loy Krathong, the festival of lights. Ploy walked to the river with her family. The full moon was big and bright. Ploy held a small krathong in her hands. It had flowers, a candle, and three sticks of incense. People put their krathongs on the water. Each krathong carried a small light and a wish. Ploy lit her candle and made a wish too. She wished for a happy year for her family. Then she let her krathong float away. The river shone with hundreds of little lights. But one lantern floated far from the others. It was alone, and its light was pale. Ploy watched it and felt a little cold.
