What is the TOEIC test? Format, scoring and how to prepare
IELTS specialists — MUIC & Chulalongkorn University alumni, IELTS Speaking Band 9, IDP-certified.
The TOEIC Listening & Reading test measures everyday workplace English with 200 multiple-choice questions — 100 Listening and 100 Reading — scored from 10 to 990. It has seven parts, takes about two hours, and there's no penalty for wrong answers, so you should never leave a blank. Scores are valid for two years and are widely used by employers for hiring and promotion.
Who takes TOEIC and why
TOEIC is an English test built around workplace and everyday situations rather than academic study. Companies and government bodies use it to hire, promote and place staff, so most test-takers sit it for a job or a career requirement.

How to start preparing
Take a timed practice set to find your current score band, then split your effort between the grammar-heavy Part 5/6 and the pacing challenge of Part 7, while training your ear on the once-only Listening audio. Because there's no wrong-answer penalty, practise filling every answer even when you're unsure.
