It's computer-based, split into four subjects, each scored 100–200, and you need 145+ to pass each one.
What's on the GED (4 subjects)
📖 Reasoning Through Language Arts
Reading comprehension, grammar, language use, and an analytical written response.
🔢 Mathematical Reasoning
Arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data interpretation; a calculator is allowed on part of it.
🔬 Science
Life, physical and earth science, plus reading science graphs and data.
🌏 Social Studies
US civics and government, history, economics and geography.
What GED score do you need?
Each subject is scored 100–200: 145+ = passing (GED Passing), 165–174 = College Ready, and 175+ = College Ready + Credit. You earn the GED credential by passing all four subjects.
How to prepare for the GED
- 1. Practise each subject's questions and read the solution for every one to understand the reasoning.
- 2. Build a solid base in English and Math — usually the two subjects to focus on most.
- 3. Practise reading graphs/tables, since Science and Social Studies test data interpretation.
- 4. Practise under real timing; you can take one subject at a time.
